I ve been using neat patch for about 2 years. I was a convert from Panduit, and Chatsworth products, who make similar products, but at a much higher cost. If you are building a rack from scratch there is no better product for horizontal cable management. There are 2 minor down sides to this product. 1, the screws that neat patch supplies aren t very good, I usually replace them with Chatsworth screws. 2, when fully loaded, sometimes the center fingers tend to sag making the cover hard to secure. This can be fixed by placing a small piece of plastic vertically in the center of the cable storage area. Doing so will keep the center from sagging, and keep the cover secure. Overall I m very happy with this product. I ve attached a photo to show how nice Neatpach can make your wiring closet.

Serial and parallel cables are usually used to connect a computer to peripheral devices, like printers. A serial cable is easily identified by its clunky connector.
Communication between two machines requires a transfer of signal from an output to an input. There needs to be a sender and receiver of the signal for the complete communication process to take place. Serial and parallel communications are both ways of transferring data over networks. Both systems have a unique way of operating, with differences between the two ranging from the mode of relaying signals to the level of connectivity they require.
A serial communication device transfers data in bits in the same direction. A parallel communication device sends data in multiple bits to the same direction. In serial communication a word of eight bits in length is sent sequentially, and is received after all eight bits are sent, one at a time. The bits are then assembled back into one byte which is the initial communication. In parallel communication the eight bits are transferred in corresponding 8 channels, every channel transmits a bit, and a byte of data is received simultaneously.
Parallel communication devices are faster than their serial counterparts. A serial communication device sends data in bits, and at the end the bits harmonize to form a byte of data. A parallel communication device sends and receives the same amount of data simultaneously, thus making it faster. The parallel device has eight wires connected to the port which transmits all the 8 bits through the eight wire connectors simultaneously. This means that a parallel device transmits an 8 bits data within the same time a serial device transmits a single bit.
Serial communication uses fewer connections and cables than parallel communication does. The use of fewer wires in serial communication makes its signals clearer, thus making it suitable for long distance communication. Parallel communication uses more wires to allow the transfer of data simultaneously. The use of many wires causes the signals to become distorted, making parallel communication unsuitable for long distance transmission.
Serial communication has a single port with a connector while a parallel port is usually connected to eight wires. A serial port therefore, requires less investment for purchasing wires compared to parallel communication. In terms of space, parallel communication requires more space to accommodate its wires while serial communication utilizes minimal space for its single connector.

Digital data transmission can occur in two basic modes: serial or parallel. Data within a computer system is transmitted via parallel mode on buses
with the width of the parallel bus matched to the word size of the computer system. Data between computer systems is usually transmitted in bit serial mode . Consequently, it is necessary to make a parallel-to-serial conversion at a computer interface when sending data from a computer system into a network and a serial-to-parallel conversion at a computer interface when receiving information from a network. The type of transmission mode used may also depend upon distance and required data rate.
Parallel Transmission
In parallel transmission, multiple bits usually 8 bits or a byte/character are sent simultaneously on different channels wires, frequency channels within the same cable, or radio path, and synchronized to a clock. Parallel devices have a wider data bus than serial devices and can therefore transfer data in words of one or more bytes at a time. As a result, there is a speedup in parallel transmission bit rate over serial transmission bit rate. However, this speedup is a tradeoff versus cost since multiple wires cost more than a single wire, and as a parallel cable gets longer, the synchronization timing between multiple channels becomes more sensitive to distance. The timing for parallel transmission is provided by a constant clocking signal sent over a separate wire within the parallel cable; thus parallel transmission is considered synchronous .
Serial Transmission
In serial transmission, bits are sent sequentially on the same channel wire which reduces costs for wire but also slows the speed of transmission. Also, for serial transmission, some overhead time is needed since bits must be assembled and sent as a unit and then disassembled at the receiver.
Serial transmission can be either synchronous or asynchronous . In synchronous transmission, groups of bits are combined into frames and frames are sent continuously with or without data to be transmitted. In asynchronous transmission, groups of bits are sent as independent units with start/stop flags and no data link synchronization, to allow for arbitrary size gaps between frames. However, start/stop bits maintain physical bit level synchronization once detected.
Applications
Serial transmission is between two computers or from a computer to an external device located some distance away. Parallel transmission either takes place within a computer system on a computer bus or to an external device located a close distance away.
A special computer chip known as a universal asynchronous receiver transmitter UART acts as the interface between the parallel transmission of the computer bus and the serial transmission of the serial port. UARTs differ in performance capabilities based on the amount of on-chip memory they possess.
Examples
Examples of parallel mode transmission include connections between a computer and a printer parallel printer port and cable. Most printers are within
6 meters or 20 feet of the transmitting computer and the slight cost for extra wires is offset by the added speed gained through parallel transmission of data.
Examples of serial mode transmission include connections between a computer and a modem using the RS-232 protocol . Although an RS-232 cable can theoretically accommodate 25 wires, all but two of these wires are for overhead control signaling and not data transmission; the two data wires perform simple serial transmission in either direction. In this case, a computer may not be close to a modem, making the cost of parallel transmission prohibitive thus speed of transmission may be considered less important than the economical advantage of serial transmission.
Tradeoffs
Serial transmission via RS-232 is officially limited to 20 Kbps for a distance of 15 meters or 50 feet. Depending on the type of media used and the amount of external interference present, RS-232 can be transmitted at higher speeds, or over greater distances, or both. Parallel transmission has similar distance-versus-speed tradeoffs, as well as a clocking threshold distance. Techniques to increase the performance of serial and parallel transmission longer distance for same speed or higher speed for same distance include using better transmission media, such as fiber optics or conditioned cables, implementing repeaters, or using shielded/multiple wires for noise immunity.
Technology
To resolve the speed and distance limitations of serial transmission via RS-232, several other serial transmission standards have been developed including RS-449, V.35, Universal Serial Bus USB, and IEEE-1394 Firewire. Each of these standards has different electrical, mechanical, functional, and procedural characteristics. The electrical characteristics define voltage levels and timing of voltage level changes. Mechanical characteristics define the actual connector shape and number of wires. Common mechanical interface standards associated with parallel transmission are the DB-25 and Centronics connectors. The Centronics connector is a 36-pin parallel interface that also defines electrical signaling. Functional characteristics specify the operations performed by each pin in a connector; these can be classified into the broad categories of data, control, timing, and electrical ground. The procedural characteristics or protocol define the sequence of operations performed by pins in the connector.

Lion/Mountain Lion and MPEG-2 Playback Component
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback
Component may refuse to install the component in Lion and Mountain Lion. Apple states the
component is unnecessary in Lion and Mountain Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs
it.
To install the component in Lion or Mountain Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 beta
above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2
Component M. Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in
Lion or Mountain Lion. The
original installer s disk image QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the
built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion and Mountain Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need
to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion and Mountain Lion. You don t
have to install QuickTime 7.

Snow Leopard and MPEG-2 Playback Component
The Snow Leopard upgrade DVD released on August 28, 2009 may wipe the
content
of
the /System/Library/QuickTime folder during the upgrade process, and
delete your MPEG-2 Playback Component installed in that folder.
To use MPEG-2 files with MPEG Streamclip you have to reinstall the
MPEG-2 component or restore it from a backup copy.
If you are going to upgrade to Snow
Leopard
Open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder and drag the
QuickTimeMPEG2.component file to your desktop to make a copy of it.
Then upgrade to Snow Leopard. When the upgrade is complete, open the
/System/Library/QuickTime folder again and move the
QuickTimeMPEG2.component file from the desktop to the
/System/Library/QuickTime folder enter your administrator password if
necessary.
If you already upgraded to Snow Leopard
You have to reinstall or restore your MPEG-2 Playback Component.
If you have a Time Machine backup of your System folder, then open the
/System/Library/QuickTime folder, enter Time Machine and go back in
time until you see the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file; select that file
and then click Restore.
If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online
Store, then you probably still have the DMG file that contains the
installer. Use Spotlight to search for QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg : if you
find a file with that name, double-click it and then in the disk image,
double-click the installer package for Intel Macs.
Store but you can t find the QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg file, you can download
the file again from the Apple Online Store if you remember the Apple ID
used when you originally purchased it if you forgot your Apple ID then
go to Apple iforgot. Visit
the Apple Online Store, click on Account in the
store menu, then click Downloadable Software Purchases, enter your
Apple ID and password, and click the link to the QuickTime MPEG-2
Playback Component to download it again.
If you obtained the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the installation of
Final Cut Studio, then you can reinstall it again from the Final Cut
Studio DVD. Insert the DVD and use the Finder s Go menu Go To
Folder command to get to the /Volumes/Final Cut
Studio/Installer/Packages/ folder
inside the DVD. Locate the QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg or the
QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg installer: double-click it to reinstall the
MPEG-2 component.
Requirements
This free software requires at least Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar and
QuickTime 6. It is also compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.x Panther, Mac
OS X 10.4.x Tiger, Mac OS X 10.5.x Leopard, Mac OS X 10.6.x Snow
Leopard, OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion, and QuickTime 7. It
works with PowerPC and Intel
based Macs.
For MPEG-2 playback and conversion, you need the QuickTime MPEG-2
Playback Component. You can buy it from Apple

If you have either Final Cut Pro or
DVD Studio Pro, then the component is already installed and you don t
have to buy it; but you may need to download the latest version from
Apple.
If you bought an older
version of the component, you can update it to the latest version
www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/update.
Note that the MPEG-2 component
is neither required nor useful for MPEG-1 or MPEG-4 files. But it is
required for VOB files and transport streams, because they are MPEG-2
files.
For DivX playback and editing, you have to install DivX www.divx.com/divx/mac.
You can also install another codec like 3ivx www.3ivx.com
or XviD
n.ethz.ch/student/naegelic,
but only with DivX 6.5 and later or DivX 5.2.1 you can
encode DivX files with MP3
audio.
For FLV playback and export, you can download and install Perian www.perian.org.

Features
MPEG Streamclip lets you play and edit QuickTime, DV, AVI, MPEG-4,
MPEG-1; MPEG-2 or VOB files or transport streams with MPEG, PCM, or AC3
audio MPEG-2 playback component required ; DivX with DivX 6 and
WMV with Flip4Mac WMV Player. MPEG Streamclip can export all these
formats to QuickTime, DV/DV50, AVI/DivX and MPEG-4 with high quality
encoding and even uncompressed or HD video.
Video conversion is performed in the YUV color space; you can choose to
scale video to any frame size using a professional 2D-FIR scaler
better than bicubic but you can also leave it unscaled. Other
optional video processing features include a powerful motion-adaptive
deinterlacer, a field dominance converter, a chroma reinterlacer and an
option to perform interlaced scaling instead of progressive scaling.
Audio can be converted to uncompressed or to IMA, AAC, MP2 or AMR using
the high-quality MP1/MP2/AC3/PCM built-in decoders of MPEG Streamclip;
it is also kept in perfect sync with video using a timekeeping system.
MPEG Streamclip can save edited movies as MOV files, and when
possible as AVI or MP4 files. Edited MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files are saved
as MPEG or TS files.
MPEG Streamclip with or without the MPEG-2 Playback Component can
also convert MPEG-2 transport streams into muxed MPEG-2 files, for
immediate burning at full quality with Toast 6 or 7 and Sizzle; it can
also demux MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files and transport streams with MPEG,
AC3, PCM audio to M2V and AIFF or M1A or AC3 files, for immediate
burning at full quality with DVD Studio Pro or Toast 6 and 7. A special
demuxing option is available for Final Cut Pro 4/5: this application
does not work well with M2V files, but MPEG Streamclip can write a
special unscaled M2V file that preserves full video quality when
imported into Final Cut Pro.
MPEG Streamclip can handle files and streams larger than 4 GB, split in
any number of segments, or with multiple audio tracks, and can also
optionally handle timecode breaks. It is compatible with MPEG-1 and
MPEG-2 video, MPEG layer 1/2 MP1/MP2 audio, AC3/A52 audio, and PCM
The player included in MPEG Streamclip lets you preview the files and
transport streams before doing the conversion; it also lets you
visually set the In and Out points for the conversion so you can
convert just the part of the file you are interested in, and also cut
commercials and other unwanted parts, or edit the stream and join two
streams with Cut/Copy/Paste.
MPEG Streamclip supports batch processing: just drag some files in the
batch list, choose a conversion and a folder, click the Go button and
MPEG Streamclip will automatically convert all your files.

the TF5000PVRt which is terrestrial and supports DVB-T ; two powerful
connection tools for these devices have been developed and included in
MPEG Streamclip. You ll no longer need to use FTP, mount SMB disks, or
use MacTF to download and upload files: MPEG Streamclip does this for
